TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Russian Embassy in Jakarta expressed its deepest condolences for the train collision in East Bekasi, which killed at least 16 people and injured 90 others.
“In a tragic moment like this, we understand how fragile and precious every life is,” the Russian Embassy said in a social media post on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
The Russian Embassy expressed its concern, support, and prayers for all those affected by this incident.
“We believe fortitude and unity will help overcome the impact of this disaster,” the statement said.
“We express our sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and share their grief and irreplaceable loss,” the Russian Embassy said.
The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening, when an online taxi experienced problems and stopped at a level crossing on Ampera street.
The taxi hampered the progress of the Kampung Bandan-Cikarang commuter line, causing the train to stop on the tracks.
The situation quickly escalated when the train was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train, traveling from Jakarta to Surabaya via Pasar Turi. The violent collision was unavoidable, causing extensive damage to the train.
Police are investigating the fatal accident, including probing into suspected human error and potential interference with the train’s communication system, which contributed to the collision.
