TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Two buses carrying Indonesian hajj pilgrims were involved in a collision while touring Jabal Magnet in Medina on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The buses were transporting pilgrims who had flown in from Surabaya Embarkation (SUB-2) and Jakarta-Bekasi Embarkation (JKS-01).
The Head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Moh. Hasan Afandi, stated that the incident occurred at 10:30 Saudi Arabian time. The accident was caused when the bus carrying the SUB-2 group crashed into the side of the JKS-01 bus.
According to the latest report, a total of 10 pilgrims were injured. They consisted of 7 pilgrims from the Jakarta-Bekasi group, 2 pilgrims from Surabaya, and 1 pilgrimage guidance official, who suffered minor injuries.
Hasan stated that most of the injured victims have received medical treatment and assistance from officials. However, one pilgrim is still in need of intensive care at the hospital.
“Currently, one pilgrim named Sri Sugi Hartini, 60 years old, is still undergoing treatment at Al Hayyat Madinah Hospital,” Hasan said in a written statement on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Hasan mentioned that the government facilitated pilgrimage activities to various religious sites in Medina before the peak of the hajj. These activities included visits to the Quba Mosque, Qiblatain Mosque, and Jabal Uhud. It was mentioned that all these activities were coordinated and supervised by officials.
However, the Ministry of Hajj emphasized that activities unrelated to religious interests should be avoided, as they could potentially harm pilgrims. Additionally, excessive religious activities that could lead to extreme fatigue should be avoided.
Hasan further stated that the Ministry of Hajj will continue to monitor the pilgrims‘ conditions and ensure that all medical and logistical needs are well met. Pilgrims are provided with continuous assistance to ensure their comfort and safety during the recovery period.
